This month of November 2019 started as always, liturgically, with the Feast dedicated to All Saints and then with the commemoration of the Dead, we want to propose an interesting text that illustrates the Saints of the new Millennium, proposing the canonizations celebrated in recent decades in the Catholic Church mentioned by INTERRIS.IT in a valuable and detailed article full of documented "links": From the first evangelizers to the young people of our time, here is how the world "map" of holiness changes "There are more saints than niches," wrote Honoré de Balzac in The Country Doctor. When one speaks of sanctity one must immediately shelter oneself from a tendency that has always been in vogue: that of pride, which elevates man to an alleged superiority that obscures others to the point of eclipsing them. The Saints, the real ones, teach us instead that there is no vademecum of holiness. To follow in the footsteps of Christ, to reach what the mystics call "imitatio Christi" has nothing hieratic about it. On the contrary, it is a path deeply rooted in the history of each one. Pope Francis also recalled this in his Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate. On the call to holiness in the contemporary world: "holiness is a way for all". The Pontiff warns against the temptation to paint the Saints as icons, "empty simulacra", stripping them of that humanity which has "miraculous" because it is pervaded by Christ. "Many times - the Pope recalls - we are tempted to think that holiness is reserved for those who have the possibility of keeping their distance from ordinary occupations [...]. It is not so". The model is, rather, the "holiness of the next door", which needs faith to rise, but it is so because it descends into the lives of each one. The various chapters follow *** Unity in diversity *** The "martyr" church of Wojtyła *** The sprouting of the "Little European" saints *** Le Sante di Wojtyła *** Pope Benedict XVI: 45 Saints *** Laity and women in imitation of Christ *** Pope Francis: 898 Saints *** Suburban saints *** At the feet of the last few *** Martyrs of yesterday and today *** Saints of the Second Vatican Council *** The young saints ---- Here is the full article (including advertising...) https://www.collactio.com/appuntamenti/appuntamenti-catechesi/2075-chi-sono-i-santi-del-nuovo-millennio.html ---- Finally a heartfelt thanks to those who freely "followed" us by browsing our site and in particular to the Friends who support each other in prayer or even some contribution to the expenses: every contribution, even small, encourages us and is precious http://www.orientecristiano.it/sostienici.html |
