"For the Romanian Orthodox Church, the ecumenical assembly of Sibiu was important, especially because delegations from all over Europe had the opportunity to experience the Orthodox spirituality, mostly by attending our liturgies". This was stated on Saturday July 12th by the Orthodox metropolitan bishop Laurentiu Streza of Ardeal, during a meeting with the delegations of the Conference of the European Churches (Kek) and the Council of the European Bishops Conferences (Ccee). The purpose of the visit - relayed by the agency of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Romania, Basilica.ro - was to meet the Rumanian authorities involved in the organisation of the European Ecumenical Assembly of Sibiu and together take stock of the event. The news says that the participants in the meeting pointed out the commitment of the local Churches to organising the event and adds that some less positive aspects were also noticed, for instance the fact few delegates had the opportunity to give their contributions, even if they came from excellent theological and ecumenical backgrounds. "The actual results - concluded the metropolitan bishop Streza - will become apparent over time, but it's clear that the Sibiu Assembly has strengthened the relations between the Churches".
