“The Christians of the United Kingdom must support and answer the needs of the Christians in the Holy Land, who feel ignored and forgotten”. The appeal was made by Rowan Williams, archbishop of Canterbury, Anglican leader of the Church of England, and was launched in London yesterday, during a conference promoted by the “Biblelands”, which helps the Christian communities in the Holy Land. The news was made known by the site ankawa.com. On describing the situation of the Christians in the Middle East, Williams stated that “there is urgent need for people in the United Kingdom, who may be able to arouse attention on the fact that, in that region, the Christians are going through more and more difficult times”. “The lives of the Iraqi Christians are a dramatic example of that: they are escaping, and the escape is becoming a real exodus”. “Those who remain in there – added the Anglican leader – are continuously exposed to violence and extremism”. Since most of them are “educated people”, the escape of the Christians, according to Williams, simply “deprives lots of societies and countries of people full of resources”. During the meeting, the financing (supported by the Philip Usher Fund) of a research concerning the impact of migration on the Iraqi Christians was also announced.
