"I was born in Russia, the country of State atheism. I have never thought of God and nobody has ever told me about Him if not artworks, music and literature." This is the testimony of Natalja Fedorova Borovskaja, professor at the Russian State Humanistic University and at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts (Russian Federation), who attended as a listener the XIV General Congregation of the Bishops' Synod. "For me Christian art, especially Russian icons and Italian Renaissance Paintings, has become a path to the space of God's life," said the young and beautiful woman (35), whose speech was praised by the Bishops. "Today I am teaching history of art and the main question I am asking myself is which methods and educational contents can help my students meet God's love through their studies." The answer is "they will find their Father only if I will be able to abide in His Word," she said. According to the Russian professor to rediscover, or discover, God through art, it is important to "welcome the artwork in one's heart as a prayer by the artist, to approach the history of art with spiritual attention trying to understand its deep religious symbolism and to consider the figure of the artist in the light of God's love."
