Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Maximos dies at 85

maximosMetropolitan Maximos Aghiorgoussis, the longest-serving spiritual leader of Pittsburgh’s Greek Orthodox community, with a 32-year tenure marked by growth and efforts toward unity among Orthodox churches and the wider Christian community, died Monday. He was 85.  --  The Greek-born son of a priest, he went on to become a prominent Orthodox theologian who in 1965 helped to engineer a historic breakthrough in Orthodox-Catholic relations.
