ECUMENISM: ROME, THE ITALIAN-RUSSIAN ACADEMY “SAPIENTIA ET SCIENTIA” UNVEILED TODAY

The Italian-Russian Academy “Sapientia et scientia” will open in Rome. The international association “Sofia: idea russa, idea d’Europa” opens the doors of a new Academy, the first of its kind in Italy, in cooperation with the State University for International Relations of Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Foro di dialogo Italia-Russia delle Società Civili. The project was welcomed by the Holy See and the Patriarchate of Moscow and was officially approved by the Italian and Russian governments. It will be unveiled today at Villa Sciarra-Wurts, in the Janiculum area. The event is sponsored by the Embassy of the Russian Federation to Italy and the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Holy See, with the contribution of Vnesheconombank. The Academy – which means to be a permanent meeting place for delegates of the Churches and the civil societies of Italy and Russia – will be working in Rome, at Villa Sciarra-Wurts. Two events have already been planned for 2010: the Conference of the Rectors of the Russian and Italian universities about cooperation in the area of academic and religious education, and a meeting about “Europe without frontiers”, which will be attended by Italian and Russian political and economic experts.
