UKRAINE: 2012 DECLARED A YEAR OF THE HOLY SACRAMENTS IN EPARCHIES OF UGCC

san-pietro-san-paoloYear of the Holy Sacraments in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) will begin on Christmas this year, with reflections on the birth of the Son of God, followed by meditations about the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. During the Great Lent attention will focus on the sacrament of Penance, and the week before and after Easter on the sacrament of Eucharist. Fifty days of Pentecost will be dedicated to reflection on priesthood and the sacrament of matrimony. Sacrament of anointing the sick will be at the centre of attention before the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Importance of blessings in the Church will be discussed during the feast of Assumption in August, followed by the reflection on Christian perception of death. The schedule has been announced by Fr. Mykhailo Harvat, chairman of the organizing committee. According to him, the project will include various activities on the level of parishes and 12 eparchies of UGCC – retreats, catechetical classes, conventions, Eucharistic weeks, pilgrimages, seminars and Christian youth camps – in accordance with conclusions of the recent Synod of bishops of the UGCC in Brazil that declared the next year to be a Year of Christian Vocation, with emphasis on the lay vocations.
